With the summer holidays only weeks away, most trips abroad looking increasingly unlikely and many staycations selling out – a Staffordshire couple have launched a company offering a totally different holiday experience.
Campers for Explorers is the brainchild of husband-and-wife team Judith and Ashley Richardson who live in Stafford.
They offer people the chance to hire one of two Land Rovers which come with IKamper roof tents, cooking equipment, barbecue, bedding (if required) and they’ll even throw in marshmallows to toast by the campfire.
The Land Rovers and tents sleep up to two adults and two children, and there’s room for a dog too if people want to take their four-legged friend.
Each Land Rover has its own name – one’s called Nellie, named after the elephant, that led Hannibal over the Alps in the Second Punic War in 218bc and the second after Betty, simply because Judith and Ashley liked the name.
Their brand-new venture is a far cry from their other business Qube Environmental which specialises in legionella control and asbestos management.
Judith said: “Ashley and I wanted to do something completely different than our usual day job. Covid has changed the way so many of us have lived our lives and the way we holiday has been no different. I think a lot of people are open to trying experiences they perhaps wouldn’t before and because we love the outdoors and exploring, we thought why not make a business out of it?
“Anyone who loves exploring and the great outdoors will love this. All you need to take with you, is yourselves, clothes and food – we’ll provide everything else. You just need to find a campsite or somewhere safe to pitch up. “Nellie and Betty can be hired for a minimum of three nights or for as long as people want and when they’re returned to us, everything is cleaned and sanitised, ready for their next adventure. Since we launched the socials, we’ve had lots of enquiries and we’re really looking forward to helping people make some really special holiday memories.”
