“The cost of preparing for a crisis, is much less than the cost of recovering from one.”

Do you know who said that? The Legs PR Accountant, that’s who, and he summed up the importance of crisis communications in one sentence – right there.

Public relations isn’t just about raising your profile, it’s about protecting your reputation as well and crisis communications planning is a massive part of that.

If you’ve got a business continuity plan to set out how you would keep the business going if a crisis hit, you should have a communications section in there, setting out everything from who would speak to the media, how you would communicate with clients or your supply chain and who’s going to monitor and manage your socials.

If you haven’t – our Crisis Communications Training can help and if you fall within a Stoke-on-Trent postcode and hit the criteria – you could access £5,000 of free training money so it won’t cost, you a penny. Get in touch to find out how to apply for the Skills Hub Training but you’ll have to be quick – it’s on a first come, first served basis and the training needs to be booked in February (but can be delivered later in the year.

If you’re still thinking – well, I still don’t know why we would need crisis communications ask yourself this?

  • If you the hit the headlines for the wrong reasons, would you know how to respond or rebuild trust with your team or client base?
  • If your office was bombarded with calls from the press wanting interviews or a statement, would you know how to respond?
  • We don’t want to tempt fate but if the worst happens, would you have steps in place to manage your communications quickly and effectively?
  • Would you have someone who is confident enough to do a live TV interview under pressure and get the right messages across?
  • Would you know what to do if you’re getting slammed on social media?

Crisis communications and media training will help you protect your reputation – a: ‘no comment,’ isn’t going to save you but we can help.
