A Newcastle Recruitment Company is undertaking an ambitious expansion programme with a particular focus on the care sector.
The business which has just turned one, started off with five staff and now employs seven with plans to expand the team with another consultant joining the team later this month.
The agency based in Queen’s Parade welcomed new Care Consultant Natasha Machin to the team this week to support the growing team.

SMarter Recruitment was founded in 2020 by Mark and Sarah Heath who have many years of experience within the recruitment industry.
The firm says COVID has had a major impact on the care sector with people leaving the profession or moving up the ladder which in turn has led to the business having 100 live vacancies within the sector at any one time.
As a result, the company launched a dedicated,’ care recruitment desk,’ this year focussing on the care sector. It’s headed up by Senior Care Consultant Lana Waters.
Lana joined the company in June. She said: “The demand for care within care homes is huge. We have a massive range of vacancies across Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent and Cheshire. We’re looking for those people with a genuine passion for caring for others, they don’t need to have previous experience as we will ensure they have full training through us. Covid has had a massive impact on this sector which is why we are focusing on recruitment for the care desk and we’re looking to expand further by bringing in another dedicated recruitment consultant, specifically to the care field.
SMarter Recruitment also want to increase diversity by attracting potential candidates from Eastern Europe for a wide range of care and industrial roles. They recently recruited Romanian Resourcing specialist Vlad Bria to engage with people whose first language may not be English.
Branch Manager Paul Smith explained: “We know that there are many Eastern Europeans who are actively looking for work and we know that we can help them. Vlad’s appointment will certainly support us to do that. The last few months have seen us grow, both in terms of our own workforce but also in terms of the clients we are serving. Our specific recruitment desk related to care; has enabled us to offer in-house training for new starters, and candidates who are new to the care sector, but we are also looking to create further desks for other sectors. Our new Permanent desk has a wide range of commercial roles such as professional services roles in marketing, HR, Procurement and many more. We’ll be bringing in new staff to oversee them later in the year.

He added: “At the moment it’s a candidates’ market as there are more positions than candidates so I would urge anyone looking for a new opportunity to get in contact with us. For us it’s not about cheques and balances, it’s about nurturing our relationships, being the right fit for our clients and candidates while building a long-term relationship with both.”
