Three years ago, after a leap of faith and lots of planning, the website and branding were done, the social
media channels were set up and Legs PR Agency was born.
Fast forward 36 months on and none of us could have predicted the world we’re living in right now – so it’s a
very low-key celebration for our third birthday – definitely more of an acknowledgement than a party. Now
doesn’t feel like a time to celebrate.
Yet acknowledge we will, so three years on and the business has grown. We’ve brought in our fantastic PR
assistant, Charlotte, we’ve worked with more clients from different industries and have our first international
client. We’ve changed too by splitting the business into two arms with a distinct focus on PR and our training.
When this is all over we’ll be really focusing on taking our Media and Marketing Masterclasses to the next
level.
But in three years what are the three main things we’ve learnt?
Being Patient: Thinking that getting your branding done, launching your website and creating your
social media platforms will instantly bring in business is a bit naïve. It takes time to build both your
brand and your reputation so you need to be patient. You have to do all the things you can to get your
name out there so clients start coming to you.
Networking: Joining a networking group has been fundamentally crucial to our success. We joined BNI
Staffordshire just two months after launching the business. It’s single handedly the best thing we could
have done. Although we were experts in our field, we very definitely weren’t experts in business and
networking helped with that. It got us in front of business owners we would ordinarily never have got to
meet. We’ve learnt from them, gained from their knowledge and have benefitted from a network of
support from an army of other businesses. At times like this you need that. The amount of work we
have generated from being a member, is more than we could have hoped for too. Last year 38% of our
business came from BNI. You can’t argue with those figures.
Relationships: Business is all about relationships. It’s about building a rapport and trust with your
clients and business associates. The caliber of companies here is phenomenal and getting to know
them and help share their stories has been an absolute honour over the last three years. We’ve met
and worked with some fantastic businesses, that are not only clients but are now friends too.
None of us are under any illusion that times are going to tough over the coming months for all of us at home
and in business. We wish every one of you well. When all this is over and we come out of the other side, we’ll
be planning our next three years and hoping to tell as many of your stories as we can. Stay safe and stay
strong.
